first birthday: a wild rumpus

saturdays were made for parties and this past weekend we hosted carson’s first at our in-laws.  thank goodness they let us use their home since we certainly couldn’t have entertained many in our apartment. haha.  one nice thing about celebrating elsewhere: it forces you to keep it simple.

we invited our closest friends and family and successfully celebrated carson’s first year of life!  cody and i celebrated the fact that we managed to keep him alive for a full year. little allie roamed the farm.  and everyone else ate cake, cupcakes, and sweated their tales off in the unseasonably hot, hot heat.

the theme was ‘where the wild things are’, complete with ‘wild thing’ favors for the kiddos, the most perfectly decorated cake and an outfit to match.  despite my best intentions i barely had time to shop that week much less make anything so i bought easy snacks and a couple dozen halloween cupcakes.  i set it all up 30 minutes before our first guests arrived and didn’t put much pressure on making it ‘perfect.’  it may have been our best party yet!

by the end of it carson was in his diaper, buried in wrapping paper, covered in frosting, tired as all get out yet ready for more.  aside from a small flame snafu (total mom fail) it was a great afternoon.

carson has been blessed by so many in his life already.  he’s one lucky little boy!
